클로드 코드 Context7 스킬 설치 및 사용법, 최신 라이브러리 문서로 정확한 코드 만들기

Context7 helps Claude Code consult library documentation instead of relying only on what an AI model remembers. Beginners can connect it from a terminal, then ask Claude Code to check the relevant docs while writing code. It can reduce outdated API suggestions, but it does not guarantee that generated code will work without testing.

✅ Key takeaways

  • Context7 supplies documentation and examples for development libraries such as React and Next.js.

  • Claude Code supports a CLI + Skills workflow as well as an MCP-based connection.

  • Run npx ctx7 setup --claude and follow the setup prompts to choose a mode.

  • Always check your installed library version and test the final code.

🔎 What does Context7 actually do?

Coding agents can suggest patterns from older library releases. Context7 lets them retrieve more relevant documentation when a task depends on a particular framework or API. For example, when adding a Next.js route, you can ask Claude Code to consult documentation for the version in your project before editing files.

The term “Context7 skill” is used broadly, but there are two distinct setups. An MCP connection exposes documentation lookup tools to Claude Code. The CLI + Skills route installs a skill that guides the agent to fetch documentation with the Context7 CLI.

💻 Install Context7 in Claude Code

Make sure Claude Code and Node.js are available first. The Context7 CLI currently requires Node.js 22.13 or newer. Open the terminal where you use Claude Code and run:

npx ctx7 setup --claude

Follow the sign-in prompts and choose how to connect Context7. In CLI + Skills mode, setup installs a documentation lookup skill. In MCP mode, Claude Code receives access to Context7’s documentation tools. Setup prompts may vary as the CLI evolves.

You can also use the Claude Code plugin workflow. Inside Claude Code, enter:

/plugin install context7@claude-plugins-official

Complete any requested authentication and restart Claude Code if necessary. You generally need only one connection method rather than installing both.

🛠️ Ask for documentation-aware code

Give Claude Code a concrete task, the library name, and its installed version. A useful example prompt is:

“Check the Next.js version installed in this project, retrieve the matching routing documentation through Context7, and create a sample page. Verify that the APIs you use are supported in that version.”

With CLI + Skills, the documentation skill may run automatically for relevant questions. With an MCP or plugin connection, adding “use context7” can make the request explicit. Check the agent’s tool activity to confirm that documentation was actually retrieved.

⚠️ What Context7 cannot guarantee

Available documentation might not match your exact dependency version, and some APIs may not be covered. Context7 does not replace running the application, testing behavior, or reviewing security-sensitive changes. Authentication, payments, and database migrations deserve extra scrutiny.

Start by checking the library version installed in your project, then ask Claude Code to retrieve documentation for that specific version before writing code.
