How to Install and Use Claude’s seo-audit Skill: A Blog SEO Audit Guide

Install seo-audit in Claude Code, then provide a page and the search query you want it to serve. This guide covers the community skill from coreyhaines31/marketingskills; the evidence available to Claude determines how much it can actually check.

  • 🔎 The skill guides a review of technical and on-page SEO.

  • 💻 Run the installation command in a terminal.

  • 📄 Supply page content or reports when direct access is unavailable.

  • 📌 Installation does not guarantee higher rankings.

🧩 What should you prepare?

SEO means helping search engines discover and understand your content. A skill supplies reusable instructions; it does not automatically connect your analytics accounts or turn Claude into a complete website crawler.

Choose one representative article, its intended reader, and a target query. For international audiences, specify the language and target country: an article for UK readers may need different examples and terminology from one serving US readers.

💻 Install the skill in Claude Code

Have a working Claude Code setup and an environment that can run Node.js and npx. Open a terminal in your project directory and enter:

npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill seo-audit -a claude-code

Review the installer’s scope choices. A project installation belongs to that project; a personal installation can be available across projects on your machine. Review the publisher and installation contents before running community code.

Open Claude Code in the relevant directory and enter /seo-audit. If it is missing, check whether .claude/skills/seo-audit/SKILL.md exists in the appropriate project or personal location, then reopen the session. These instructions concern a local Claude Code installation, rather than uploading a skill into a regular chat.

✍️ Give Claude a focused audit request

Try this example after attaching your article or supplying its address:

“Use seo-audit to review this article for first-time visitors to Japan. The target query is ‘Japan travel checklist’ and the audience is English-speaking UK travellers. Review the title, headings, search intent and internal links. For each finding, give evidence, an edit example and a priority. Label anything you cannot verify. Do not edit files.”

Add page-level Search Console impressions and clicks if available, with sensitive information removed. Keep the date range and page filter visible so the figures retain their meaning. Without those records, treat statements about actual search performance as unverified.

🛠️ Turn findings into a practical edit

Ask for the reason behind each recommendation. For example, if a checklist article mainly describes airport procedures, decide whether to add the missing checklist or narrow the title to match the existing content.

A page that could not be retrieved has not been inspected, and speed that was not measured remains unknown. JavaScript-rendered content can also be absent from a basic HTML fetch. Start by sending one article and its target query to /seo-audit.
