What Is the Claude seo-audit Skill? Features, Installation, and Usage

The Claude seo-audit skill gives Claude a structured workflow for reviewing a website’s organic search issues. This guide covers the community skill in Corey Haines’s marketingskills collection, rather than an Anthropic built-in feature. The installation steps below are for local Claude Code.

  • 🔎 Review crawlability, indexing, technical setup, and on-page content.

  • 🛠️ Invoke the installed skill with /seo-audit and a specific request.

  • 📊 Supply Search Console exports and measurements to strengthen the evidence.

  • ⚠️ Installing a skill does not automatically crawl your entire site or improve rankings.

🔎 What does seo-audit help you check?

Search engine optimization, or SEO, helps search engines understand your pages and helps readers find relevant answers. This skill organizes an audit around crawlability and indexing first, followed by technical performance, on-page optimization, content quality, and links.

For example, if a page is missing from search, ask Claude to check indexing instructions before rewriting its headline. A noindex directive excludes a page from indexing, while a canonical indicates the preferred URL. What Claude can verify depends on its tools, accessible files, and the evidence you provide.

🛠️ How to install it in Claude Code

Start with a working Claude Code setup and Node.js with npx available. Review the publisher’s SKILL.md and supporting files, then run this command in a terminal inside your project folder:

npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill seo-audit -a claude-code

Check the installation scope when prompted. Project skills normally live at .claude/skills/seo-audit/SKILL.md; personal skills live under ~/.claude/skills/. If the skill does not appear, verify its location and restart your Claude Code session. Pasting the command into an ordinary Claude web conversation does not install it locally.

💬 Start with one page and a clear brief

Provide the page URL or HTML, target query, intended audience, and the problem you want to investigate. For an international website, specify the target language and country so the recommendations fit the intended market.

Example request: /seo-audit Review this English travel page for visitors planning their first trip to Japan. Separate verified issues from items requiring more evidence. Include supporting observations, suggested edits, and priorities. Propose changes without editing files.

Add Search Console indexing and performance exports when available. Installing the skill does not automatically connect your Google account or analytics services.

⚠️ Treat findings as evidence-based recommendations

Missing structured data in a static HTML fetch does not prove it is absent from the rendered page. JavaScript-generated markup needs a rendered-browser check or Google’s Rich Results Test. Performance and traffic claims also need actual measurements.

These instructions reflect the publisher’s documentation checked on November 7, 2026; installation details may change. Choose one important page and submit it with its target query for your first audit.
