How to Cancel YouTube Premium and Request a Refund: Billing and Important Tips

You can cancel YouTube Premium at any time, but cancelling does not automatically refund a payment you have already made. The place to cancel or request a refund depends on who bills you: YouTube/Google, Google Play, or Apple. Here is how to stop renewal, where to request a refund, and what to check before you finish.

๐Ÿ”Ž Key points at a glance

  • Cancellation stops future automatic renewals. In most cases, Premium benefits continue until the end of the current billing period.

  • You generally do not receive an automatic refund for unused days in a billing period.

  • Google Play subscriptions are cancelled in Google Play; Apple-billed subscriptions are cancelled in your Apple account settings.

  • Refunds require a separate request and are subject to the applicable platform's review and policy.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Cancel YouTube Premium on the YouTube website or app

If you subscribed directly through YouTube, sign in to the account with the membership. Open your paid memberships, choose YouTube Premium, and go to the membership management options. Select the cancellation or deactivation option, follow the prompts, and confirm the final cancellation step.

In the YouTube mobile app, tap your profile picture and open Paid memberships. Select the membership you want to cancel and follow the on-screen cancellation steps. Make sure you complete the final confirmation rather than simply closing the screen.

๐Ÿ’ณ Cancel a Google Play or Apple-billed subscription

For Google Play billing on Android: Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, and go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select YouTube Premium and choose Cancel subscription. Uninstalling the YouTube app does not cancel a paid subscription.

For Apple billing on an iPhone or iPad: Open the device's Settings app, tap your name, and select Subscriptions. Choose YouTube Premium and tap Cancel Subscription. Deleting the YouTube app does not end an Apple-billed subscription.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Can you get a refund after being charged?

Usually, cancelling a recurring membership prevents the next charge but does not refund the unused portion of the current billing period. A refund may be considered in certain situations, such as when a feature or video included in your purchase does not work. Approval is not guaranteed.

For a YouTube or Google-billed purchase, use YouTube's membership refund support process. For a Google Play charge, follow Google Play's refund process. If Apple billed you, submit the request through Apple's refund process. If a refund is approved and processed, your Premium benefits may end at that point.

โš ๏ธ Check these details before you finish

  • Confirm the billing provider: Check your membership details or payment statement to see whether YouTube/Google, Google Play, or Apple charged you.

  • Verify cancellation: Reopen the subscription page and check its status and next billing date. Starting the cancellation flow is not the same as completing it.

  • Check the correct account: If you have multiple Google accounts, make sure you are signed in to the account that holds the paid membership.

  • Prepaid and annual plans: Partial refunds for already-used prepaid plans may not be available.

If you no longer want YouTube Premium, first identify the account and company that bill you. Then cancel through that platform and confirm that the membership status shows the cancellation has been completed.
